Garth and I also explored Venice while in Italy. I'd been once before about 9 years ago, but this time I really fell in love. Everyone warned us of overcrowded squares and tourist-lined, tiny streets. I guess that was true in some areas, but we had such an amazing experience wandering off the beaten paths and getting lost down small alleyways.
There were a handful of things on our list of must-sees. One was Saint Catherine of Siena's foot (yes, her actual foot - now a saints relic), which is in the Basilica di Santi Giovani e Paolo. Catherine is one of the many intriguing medieval characters who comes up in my studies, so this was so fun for me!
Another must-see, which we knocked off the list on our first day, was the Rialto Market. The market stands in the same place as it did in Medieval times and it is so vibrant and colorful - we loved it!
By the time we got to Venice, temperatures were cooling a bit, but it was still extremely hot. I wore this black skirt with cute little flowers on it from Francesca's. It's long enough to be appropriate in the churches, but still gave me enough breathing room to be comfortable in the hot sun. Paired with a red tank and my red Marc Jacobs ballet flats, it was easy to throw on and gave me just enough color to get by.
